Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) - Theory to Practice

Data Dialogues Session 3

Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) - Theory to Practice

ABSTRACT:
India ranks first in the world across 199 countries with 1.55 lakh deaths in road crashes in 2022. Four Indian cities rank in the top 50 on the TomTom traffic congestion index covering 390 countries. Technology interventions are seen as an obvious measure to improve both safety and congestion. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) apply sensing, analysis, control, and communications technologies to transportation modes to improve safety, mobility, and efficiency. In this presentation, Dr. Vijay Kovvali will discuss the prevalent ITS theory in terms of systems, devices, and architecture. He will discuss his projects in traffic, parking, and transit management from both system needs and stakeholder perspectives. The lecture will provide attendees with an understanding of real-world ITS deployment steps and considerations along with the challenges and learnings in the Indian context. Emerging trends that will shape the future of transportation world-wide will also be discussed.
